I enjoy painting, genealogy, reading, writing and spending time with my husband Tom, our daughter Tina and her family. I am a member of Louisiana Art & Artist Guild, Zachary Artist Guild and Zachary (LA) United Methodist Church. I am also the Church Historian - serving the Church's "Ministry of Memory" so we may continue to learn from our past and anticipate our future. My educational background is in Historic Preservation. I have also been a genealogist since 1977 (at a very young age).
My life has been blessed by the ability to travel to many parts of the USA, Europe and Japan. Education and travel influences one in many ways, especially in their vision of the world. From my studies in college I gained a fondness for architecture, furniture, and the fine arts. My travels were enriched by knowledge gained on the subjects of architecture and fine arts in the classroom and transferred to my field experiences. I enjoy sharing my experiences through my painting.
For me, art is liberating. Whether I work directly from a perceived subject, plaine aire, or abstractly, I am most concerned about the overall composition and formal aspects of the work. My colors tend to be bright and bold. Bright colors make me happy and I aspire to convey that “feeling” to my viewers.
My goal as a painter is to inspire, not just reproduce a subject on a canvas. I like my colors bold and my subjects drawn with large, generous form. I strives to make my art touch the inner impulse and passion of my viewers. You may view my paintings at www.margaretcharmon.com
On Gather, I'm Looking For ...:
An opportunity to express myself and get feed back on my writing. I hope to encourage others to appreciate their family history enough to research it and write about it.
Margaret, I just now saw your comment on my essay about the Cajun cruise and my experience with grief. Thank you! And in the morning, I'll be driving to Nevada, MO to take my daughter to college! :-)
